Within this site are many records or "sources". You will find assorted wills, land records, biographies, census entries, court records, birth, marriage and death records, cemetery listings, and more.


As often as I can manage, records, history and other information of interest are added to the site. Naturally, there is more info out there than I could ever possibly hope to find on my own and so I am always eager to hear from others. Be prepared to be nagged, cajoled, begged to contribute any of your findings to the site. This can include anything from a photograph of your parents to a copy of your great, great grandfather's will to your lineage as you know it. Any and all contributors are awknowledged unless anonymity is requested.


The blog features current projects and details about updates and posts of interesting findings and genealogy news. Feel free to stop by and say hi.

Remembered as the "Father of American Presbyterianism", Francis Makemie encouraged his nephews to follow him over to America from Ireland. Between starting several churches and moderating the first Presbytery, he was also arrested by Lord Cornbury of New York. His achievements have been celebrated with many tributes, including statues and plaques and more. Visit his page to learn more.

A brief word of caution about this search box: I'm still working on it. It doesn't seem to find things consistently. I'm hoping eventually to figure out why and rectify the situation, but for now, try it, but if you don't find something you expect to find, go to the pages by type.

The McKemie One Name Study (aka McKemie ONS, MCK ONS, MCK/MCC ONS) is the research of a single surname (taking into consideration and including variations in spelling). The research includes the history, geography, and etymology of the single surname. In essence, an ONS collects every occurrence of the chosen surname, worldwide. This differs from typical genealogy in that the research is not limited to tracing a linear descendancy or ancestry.

Hopefully, eventually the oldest source or origin of the name will be discovered. Meanwhile, I would like to connect as many of the McKs as possible and compile a helpful database of MCK information worldwide.

And that doesn't take into account misspellings such as McKeNNie or McKaney, etc!

This project evolved out of the McK/McC One Name Study and is an attempt to understand our kinship, family lines, ethnic origins, migrations and even our Scottish clan affiliations. In essence, this DNA projects endeavors, over the course of time, to answer two questions every genealogust has: Who are we and where did we come from? Men with the surname, any variation, are invited and encouraged to participate in this ongoing, long-term project.


More than just dry lineages, this section highlights individual family groups-where they came from, where they went and what they're doing now.
